Columbia State Historic Park
Several episodes of Little House on the Prairie were filmed at Columbia State Historic Park, including Someone Please Love Me, Sweet Sixteen, and The In-Laws. Columbia is also the site of the Little House on the Prairie Cast Reunion and features filming location exhibits highlighting scenes shot in and around the park.
Please note: The Sweet Sixteen house is a private residence and can only be viewed from the Stagecoach. We kindly ask that you respect the homeowners’ privacy—do not approach, trespass, or disturb the property.

Railtown 1897 State Historic Park
Railtown 1897 was prominently featured in Little House on the Prairie and served as the primary location for most of the show's railroad scenes. The iconic steam locomotive #3, along with the depot, roundhouse, and historic rolling stock, appeared in numerous episodes. Here are just a few that were filmed at Railtown 1897:
- The Pride of Walnut Grove
- The Runaway Caboose
- Journey in the Spring
- I'll Ride the Wind
- Dance with Me
- The Empire Builders

Standard Depot
The Standard Depot was featured in the episode The Odyssey, where Laura and Albert help Dylan travel to California to see the ocean before he dies of leukemia. It also appears in The Blind Journey, when Miss Trehune arrives by train with blind children from her school.
Please Note: The depot has since been converted into a grocery store, and the railroad tracks have been removed, leaving little visible evidence of its railroading past.

Historic Calaveras County Courthouse
The historic Calaveras County Courthouse was featured in the episode Family Tree, where Pa adopts Albert, and again in May We Make Them Proud, when Albert runs away and visits the courthouse to learn the whereabouts of his biological father.

Salt Springs Schoolhouse
The Salt Springs Schoolhouse in Farmington, CA, was featured in several scenes of the Sweet Sixteen episode, where Laura begins her first teaching assignment, substituting for Miss Trimble, who is recovering from an injury.
Please Note: Rough and narrow road for the last 1.5 miles leading to the schoolhouse.

Donnell Vista
Donnell Vista was featured in one of the most beloved episodes of Little House on the Prairie, The Lord is My Shepherd. The location served as the summit of 'Jonathan’s Mountain,' where Laura climbs in a heartfelt effort to get closer to God, asking Him to take her instead of her baby brother, who had recently passed away from illness.
Please Note: Donnell Vista is accessible via a moderate hike on a 1,200-foot paved trail that leads to a stunning overlook of Donnell Lake. Vault toilets are available at the parking lot.

Kennedy Meadows
Kennedy Meadows was featured in the episode The Camp-Out, where the Ingalls and Olesons go on a camping trip—and Laura and Nellie are swept away by the rushing river. The location also appears in The Blind Journey, during the relocation of the blind school from Winoka to Walnut Grove, led by Charles and Joe Kagan.
Please Note: A moderate hike on an unpaved 2,500-foot trail leads down to the meadow and river. Kennedy Meadows also offers a general store and a restaurant for visitors.

Iceberg Meadow
Iceberg Meadow was featured in the episode The Lord is My Shepherd as 'Jonathan’s Mountain.' This is the location where a column of smoke rises from the mountaintop—created by the fire that Laura and Jonathan light in hopes of drawing God’s attention so He will hear her prayer. With a touch of movie magic, the summit scenes were actually filmed at nearby Donnell Vista, just 10 miles to the south.
Please Note: Iceberg Meadow is accessible via Clarks Fork Road, a 9-mile drive that can be rough and slow in parts. The road dead-ends at a viewpoint where the meadow is easily visible—no hiking required.
